I Want to Sell with Aadarsh: How to Go About Trading in the UAE

The UAE is one of the most active food trading corridors in the world. It imports between 80 and 90 per cent of its food commodities annually, its port infrastructure ranks among the best globally, and its population of over ten million — the majority expatriate — drives consistent, year-round demand for South Asian and Middle Eastern food staples.

For a food producer or exporter looking to enter this market, the opportunity is real. So is the complexity.

This is what the process looks like — and how Aadarsh helps you navigate it.

I Want to Sell with Aadarsh: How to Go About Trading in the UAE

Why the UAE?

Before the how, the why.

The UAE is a gateway. Establish your product in Dubai or Abu Dhabi, and you have a foundation for distribution across Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, and Bahrain — four additional GCC markets with overlapping buyer profiles and similar regulatory frameworks.

The UAE also has one of the lowest food import duty structures in the region, a predictable customs clearance process, and a retail and HORECA landscape that is actively looking for quality commodity suppliers. The demand is there. The infrastructure supports it. The regulatory environment is manageable, provided you understand it.

What You Need to Get Started

A product that meets UAE and GCC food safety standards. Every food commodity entering the UAE must comply with the standards of the UAE Ministry of Climate Change and Environment, the Emirates Authority for Standardisation and Metrology (ESMA), and relevant GCC technical regulations. For most food commodities — rice, sugar, pulses, oil, spices — this means meeting specific standards for labelling, packing, quality grade, and country of origin documentation.

Halal certification. The UAE market requires Halal certification for all food products. This is not optional, and it is not a formality. Your certification must come from a recognised Halal certification body and must be current. Aadarsh coordinates Halal certification requirements as part of the import process, but producers should have their certification in order before approaching the market.

Certificate of Analysis (COA). Every shipment entering the UAE market should be accompanied by a COA — a laboratory-verified document confirming the product's quality parameters. Moisture content, purity, grade, foreign matter levels, and other category-specific specifications must be documented and verifiable. Buyers at every level of the trade — from hypermarket procurement teams to wholesale distributors — will ask for this before placing an order.

Competitive, accurate pricing. The UAE market is price-aware. Premium pricing requires premium justification. Economy pricing competes in a crowded field. The most defensible position is value-plus — quality that is visibly above the commodity floor, priced without the premium tier markup. Know your landed cost, understand your margin requirements, and arrive at a pricing structure that leaves room for the distribution margin your trade partner will need.

How Aadarsh Works With Sellers

Aadarsh acts as the in-market trading partner for food producers and exporters looking to enter or expand in the UAE and GCC.

What that means in practice:

Distribution access. Aadarsh supplies 1,500+ retail and HORECA touchpoints across all seven Emirates of the UAE. A producing partner entering the market through Aadarsh does not have to build those relationships from zero — they inherit a distribution network that took years to develop.

Compliance and documentation management. UAE import compliance, Halal certification coordination, COA verification, customs documentation, and GCC regulatory requirements are managed by Aadarsh in-house. Producers focus on supply. Aadarsh handles the regulatory chain.

Market intelligence. Seven years of active trading in the UAE commodity market mean Aadarsh understands what moves, which channels it moves through, and what pricing structure makes sense for each. That intelligence is available to producing partners from day one.

Brand and private label options. Producers who want to enter the market under their own brand receive support with packaging design, brand positioning, and retail placement. Producers who prefer a private label approach can work under one of Aadarsh's twelve in-house brands.

The Process: From First Conversation to First Shipment

Step 01 — Initial enquiry. Submit a partnership enquiry through the Aadarsh website or contact the trade team directly on WhatsApp. Provide your product category, grade, annual production capacity, and any existing certifications. A trade manager will respond within two hours.

Step 02 — Product evaluation. Aadarsh reviews your product specifications against the UAE market requirements and current buyer demand. If the product fits, a sample request or product datasheet review follows.

Step 03 — Commercial discussion. Pricing, minimum order quantities, payment terms, and logistics arrangements are agreed upon. Aadarsh will advise on competitive pricing for your category based on current market conditions.

Step 04 — Compliance review. Documentation requirements are confirmed. Halal certification, COA, country of origin documentation, and any category-specific regulatory requirements are reviewed and cleared before the first shipment is planned.

Step 05 — First shipment. The first order is placed, and the shipment moves. Aadarsh manages customs clearance and last-mile delivery in-house. The producing partner receives confirmation at each stage.

Step 06 — Ongoing supply. Once the first shipment is successfully delivered, an ongoing supply relationship is established. Regular order cycles, performance reviews, and market feedback are managed through a dedicated Account Manager.

A Note on Timelines

Entering a new market takes longer than most producers expect. Regulatory clearances, buyer qualification processes, and the first purchase order cycle can take anywhere from four to twelve weeks, depending on the product category and the buyer channel.

Aadarsh's role is to compress that timeline by removing the steps a new market entrant would otherwise have to navigate alone — compliance, buyer introductions, and logistics. Most new producing partners complete their first shipment within six to eight weeks of the initial agreement being signed.
